The final round of the prestigious programming contest under President's of the Republic of Bulgaria patronage gathered the best competitors and a constellation of VIPs    (българска версия)

The fifteenth edition of the national programming contest of Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria finished with a final round, which was under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria - Mr. Georgi Parvanov, for a third consecutive year. The final round gathered the best participants in the competition, greeted personally by prominent business and academic representatives.

This year's winner is the youngest participant - Rumen Hristov, student in 10th grade in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics School (Shoumen) and a representative of Shoumen Informatics School "A&B" with Biserka Yovcheva and Petar Petrov as tutors. He is a prominent national talent with numerous national and international awards and also part of the National Informatics Team. After two second places in the previous two editions of the competition, Rumen gained the grand prize - a laptop from Musala Soft. Runner-up is Georgi Atzev - student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics in Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Georgi received processor from AMD, printer from CNsys and a book from Microsoft Bulgaria. The awards for third place, multifunctional device from Brother, keyboard and mouse from Logitech and a book from Microsoft Bulgaria went to Alexander Georgiev, a third-year student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics in Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". Contestants who were next in the ranking received generous awards kindly provided by the following sponsors: BMG, Fadata, Fujitsu, IBS, Lexmark, TP Link, ZTE.

The award ceremony and press conference were attended by many special guests who honoured contestants' efforts and achievements, including the Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Ivan Ilchev; Prof. Ivan Soskov - Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics in Sofia University; acad. Stefan Dodunekov - Institute of Mathematics and Informatics in Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI - BAS); Boyko Lechev, iCenters; Svetlin Nakov - Founder of the Bulgarian Association of Software Developers (BASD); Georgi Brashnarov - Chairman of Bulgarian Association of Software Companies (BASSCOM); Ognian Kiriakov - General Director at Microsoft Bulgaria; assoc. prof. Daniela Gotzeva - Vice-dean of the Faculty of Computer Systems and Management at the Technical University and Emil Iliev - Head of Information Technology Department at the Presidency of the Republic of Bulgaria. Assoc. prof. Krasimir Manev was the honorary chairman of competition's jury. Hosts of the event were Tervel Niagolov, Chief Editor of PC Magazine Bulgaria, and Elena Marinova, President of Musala Soft.

In the 15th edition of the most prestigious private programming contest in Bulgaria participated 34 competitors. The 12 attendees who had best performance during the six initial rounds qualified for the final round which took place on the 12th of May in the Bulgarian - Korean Internet Center in Sofia, located in the Central Post Office building. The initial rounds in 2009 - 2010 were supported by IMI - BAS, FMI - SU, BASSCOM, BASD and Microsoft Bulgaria.

"Bulgaria is rich in talents in the fields of science, arts and sports, but it is crucial for its future the creation of conditions for training and development of capable and talented young people in the areas of Computer Programming and Informatics. That way our country will be competitive in the society of knowledge, which is already formed and will significantly characterize Europe and the whole world in the second decade of the new century." - stated Georgi Parvanov, President of Bulgaria, in his official letter to the attendees and organizers.

8. Momchil Ivanov (student in first course at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University, subject "Computer Science")
9. Vladimir Nedev (Software Engineer in Bulgarian company, alumnus of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University)
10. Georgi Gurchev (student in 11th grade in the Mathematics School, Rousse)
11. Nikolay Hubanov (student in 12th grade in the Natural Science and Mathematics School, Gabrovo)
12. Plamen Tomov (programming is his hobby)

About the contest:
In 2010 the programming contest of PC Magazine Bulgaria and Musala Soft celebrated its 15th edition (http://konkurs.musala.com). The contest is organized annually in 6 remote rounds and one final present round. For the final stage qualified 9 of the competitors who had the best performance in the initial rounds and the next 3 contestants in ranking, who haven't participated in final round for the past three years. Each remote round represents solving one algorithmic or applied problem which is tested and evaluated by a jury in Musala Soft, formed by present and ex-contestants in international and national Olympiads and Informatics competitions. An honorable jury is assoc. prof. Krasimir Manev.
