The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov greets personally all finalists in the national programming contest, organized by Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria

The fourteenth edition of the national programming contest of Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria finished with a final present round, which was under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Georgi Parvanov, for a second consecutive year. This year the President personally greeted and commended all of the contestants for their achievements.
This year's winner was Nedjalko Prisadnikov – student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, subject “Applied Mathematics”, second course. He won the grand prize which was a laptop donated by Musala Soft. Rumen is a student in the Mathematics School in Shoumen and received a Mother Board from Saga Technology, software and a keyboard by Microsoft Bulgaria. A wireless printer from Lexmark and software by Microsoft Bulgaria went to Veselin Georgiev. Veselin is taking his master degree in “Computer Graphics” in the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University. The other guys in the ranking obtained awards provided by the other sponsors CNsys, NDB, ZTE, Stemo, Logitec, Asbis, BMG.
Bestowing of awards and the press conference took place in the Press Club of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency. Other special guests that attended, along with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, were: the Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Ivan Ilchev; Stoicho Stoikov - Deputy Chairman of State Agency for Information Technology and Communications (SAITC); Boyko Lechev - chief expert in SAITC; acad. Kiril Boyanov – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS); acad. Stefan Dodunekov – BAS; Svetlin Nakov – Founder of the Bulgarian Association of Software Developers (BASD), etc. Kircho Atanasov, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science, acad. Petar Kenderov – BAS and prof. Kamen Veselinov – Rector of the Technical University were unable to attend personally but sent special greetings to the participants. Assoc. prof. Krasimir Manev, as usual, was honorable jury of the programming contest and hostesses of the event were Anna Bakalova, Executive Director of Saga Technology and Elena Marinova, President of Musala Soft.
Mr. Georgi Parvanov gave a special address to the finalists: “We’ll succeed as a nation only when we realize the meaning of what is happening with those young people. I would like to greet Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria, as organizers of the national programming contest, which is strengthening its position as a glaring example of the development of the Bulgarian IT community.”
55 participants took part in the 14th edition of the most prestigious private programming contest in Bulgaria. The 12 guys who had best performance during the six initial rounds qualified for the final. Host of the contest was the Bulgarian-Korean Internet Center in Sofia, conceded by SAITC. During its 14th edition the contest was supported by Sofia University, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics; the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies (BASSCOM) – the companies Balkanservices, Melon Technologies and Sirma, BASD and Microsoft.
The competition is an expression of the concern and support towards the Bulgarian talents with profession or hobby in the field of Informatics and Programming by the organizers Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria and their partners. The competition is held under the rules of the International Olympiads and is a platform for the development of the new Internet generation and a challenge towards the professionals in the Bulgarian software sector. Competition, when solving problems, feeds the analytical thinking and builds competitive spirit – prerequisite for a strong career and creation of products with high added value in business and academia. All efforts are rewarded by prestige, fun and lots of awards. The initiative is a successful realization of a public-private partnership with ideal purpose – traditionally relies on sponsorships and support of governmental and non-governmental organizations, leading education centers, international and national companies and particular personalities.

About the contest:
In 2009 the programming contest celebrated its 14th edition (http://konkurs.musala.com). After six remote rounds one final present is organized. Each remote round represents solving one problem which is tested and evaluated by a jury in Musala Soft, compound by present and ex-contestants in international and national Olympiads and competitions of Informatics. An honorable jury is assoc. prof. Krasimir Manev.
Musala Soft has long series of initiatives towards support and development of the IT education and talents in Bulgaria among which are: programming contest with the collaboration of PC Magazine Bulgaria (http://konkurs.musala.com); the only portal for programming and algorithmic resources in Bulgarian called Infoman (http://infoman.musala.com/), “IT Leaders Academy" (http://fmisociety.org/ITLeadersAcademy/) - a joint initiative with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University and the “FMI Society” Foundation, also support of the national team of Informatics and other local and international competitions in Informatics. A special group formed under the name of CSLab (Computer Science Laboratory), part of the "Technology and Innovation” department at Musala Soft is dedicated to development and support of those lines of activities.
